Laurie Perry is best known for her online diary, CrazyAuntPurl.com. It's a peek into the daily life of a woman who is trying to figure it all out, whatever "it" may be, with a fine assortment of wines, cats and post-divorce home improvement projects.
Her website has been featured in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, MSN.com, and has been nominated for a Webby Award. She has also been spotlighted in ForeWord Magazine’s ForePlay column, and Vogue’s “Knit 1” magazine. She has also won a Pulitzer. (Ha! Just checking to see if you're paying attention!)
Perry is from a town in Texas so small it still doesn't have a single stoplight. She has lived in the bayous of Louisiana, the backwoods of Mississippi, and the hills of Alabama and Tennessee. She moved to Los Angeles in 1994, an experience which she calls "the ultimate challenge" for a Southern woman.
"It's been culture shock," she says. "I love Los Angeles like nobody's business ... but I wish folks here could just embrace the carbohydrate. It's awfully hard to host a dinner party when no one will eat anything fried or covered in gravy."
She has written for The Los Angeles Daily News and the Winter Haven News Chief in Winter Haven, Florida, and had essays published in two collections.
Her books are available in all major bookstores, including Barnes & Noble, Borders, Wal-Mart and online at amazon.com.
